Photograph Notes: A well placed pill box overlooking the Thursden Valley. Built at the start of World War 2 and most likely manned by members of the Home Guard (Dad's Army). It gave excellent views of the approaching enemy and, like most of these fortifications, was built at good vantage points. Look closely at the bottom of the picture and you will see half buried round concrete cylinders. These would have been placed in the road to act as vehicle stops. The road signs would have been removed in order to confuse an invading army.
