Artists and Engravers: Made by 'George Vertue' after own design. George Vertue (1684-1756) was an English designer, etcher, engraver and collector-art historian from London. He was a pupil of Michel van der Gucht. He played an important role in the history of British engraving as his numerous notes, through Horace Walp.
