Mannoni a vu le colonisateur avec son “Complexe Próspero” comme en vol régressif d'un complexe paternel, en utilisant le fractionnement et victimization du colonisé pour échapper aux problèmes personnels; le colonisé a un ressentiment caché  derrière sa dépendance . Le livre a ensuite été reéédité sous le titre Prospero et Caliban”
