Plant Care & Advice

Bare root Roses:
Available throughout the winter months from November to March when the rose is dormant.
Upon receiving your bare root rose ensure the roots remain damp and kept in a cool dry place. It is always best to plant your rose as soon as you've received them, however, if this is not possible or there is a persistent frost, keep the roses in a wooden box, bucket or polythene bag filled with damp sand or damp soil and check on them daily, keeping the soil or sand damp.

Planting the Rose:
Plant the bare root rose when frost has disappeared. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots when they are spread out and deep enough to allow the union (the join between the roots and stem) to be covered by at least 1" (26mm).
Mix half the fertiliser into the bottom of the hole and the other half into the heap of soil waiting to be put back in, folk in ensuring a good mix. Do not place all the fertiliser at the bottom of the hole as this can scorch the roots of the rose. A good fertiliser is a mixture of organic matter and bone meal, rose feed pellets or well-rotted/mature farmyard manure.
Place the rose into the hole, ensuring all the roots are spread out and the plant is upright. Return the soil carefully into the hole, filtering between the roots and firming down using your foot. repeat the process until all the soil has been returned or is level with the surrounding ground. Water in well to help the soil settle around the roots.

Container Roses:
Container roses can be planted all year round. These roses are grown in a 4Lt pot and can provide more of an instant plant. Please be aware that if you buy a potted rose during the start of the year, it is likely that the rose has been recently potted. Please allow more time for the rose to root and plant out after late May. Ensure the container rose stays well-watered. Planting is very similar to bare-root, follow the instructions above.
