"Come Un Enigma - Venezia," by Giovanni Chiaramonte, published by Meridiana, Italy, 2006, 258 pages, large oblong hardcover in pictorial boards, 12" by 9.75". Introduction in Italian. Sublime book by contemporary Italian photographer Chiaramonte, a photo essay on Venice - a city usually shown in dramatic black and white, but here captured in Chiaramonte's signature muted tones, with pale sunlight washing over all. Exquisitely printed and designed, with nearly 150 full-page color plates, largely panoramic in format - beautiful yet unpredictable images focused on stone surfaces, labyrinthine passages, unusual perspectives, and light. An exemplary book - my highest recommendation. As new, still sealed save for small opening at top right corner, light bump to bottom right corner.
