Photograph Notes: A sign on the railings at the edge of Mermaid Quay appears, to this non-expert identifier of birds, to contain the silhouette of a South American condor, wingspan about 3.2 metres (10.5 feet), feeding mainly on carrion. The largest bird likely to be seen in the vicinity of Cardiff Bay is the gull (Lesser black-backed gull or, less often, the herring gull) wingspan about 1.5 metres (5 feet). Both these species are omnivorous and sometimes swoop down to 'steal' food from humans.
