RSOV (short for: Ranger Special Operations Vehicle) is a modern, military, American off-road vehicle designed for special operations. The vehicle is 4.41 meters long and 1.79 meters wide. Its total weight reaches 3.5 tons. The drive is provided by a single, four-cylinder diesel engine. The first vehicles of this type entered service in 1992. The RSOV was developed for the US Army's 75th Ranger Regiment to replace the M151 car in the line. In order to shorten the time of research and development and reduce costs, it was decided to resist the creation of the RSOV on the Land Rover Defender Model 110. Compared to its predecessor, the RSOV has a clearly reinforced structure, a deeply changed shape of the passenger compartment and, most likely, a different power unit. Still, it is a great off-road vehicle with very high reliability. The vehicle can also carry various types of weapons, including: M60, M240 or M2 machine guns, Mark 19 grenade launcher or even Javelin ATGM launchers. The RSOV type vehicle can be transported by air by MH-47 or MH-53 helicopters.
