Cruising the estate sale, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia when I saw these sunglass clips.  My dad was an career Air Force fighter pilot beginning in the 1950's.  He always wore glasses, so these type of clips were essential parts of the uniform.  I'm pretty sure he had these exact same glasses (not too many options on base!).

These are the clip ons only.  They are marked on the bridge bar "American Optical ~ C11 ~ 40".  Usually Am Optical frames in this period are 1/20 12K gold filled.  However, Since no indication of metal content, I have left this to decision of buyer.

There are 2 clips on the side of each lens (one on outside top, the other on outside lower side).

Clip-ons came in the photographed case. It is extremely good quality leather. The light brown case is marked for a Virginia optometrist as photographed. The Arlington Virginia prescribing location confirms probable military provinance.

Glasses Dimensions:

Width (screw to screw): 4.5" / 11.4 cm

Bridge bar: 2" / 5.4 cm

Lens: 1-7/8" / 4.8 cm Wide x 1-5/8" / 4 cm Tall

Clip protrusion: 3/8" / 1 cm Deep

Condition: Metal frames and lenses are in excellent used condition. No issues I can see for their use with replacement prescription lenses, or for their intended purpose of clipping over related non-sunglass eyewear. The only thing I notice as mentionable is the bridge bar is slightly out of line on left side.  I did not try to straighten - that looks easy enough. Lenses are clear from visible scratches.  Leather case in very good condition no reportable issues, such as tears, abrasions, discoloration, or stitching loss.

Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping. I only charge actual postage, and always use recycled packing materials.

Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles.  On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views.

I gladly accept returns, but please note I do not pay return postage unless there was a significant error in my description.  The item listed is being sold as is, as pictured and as described to the best of my knowledge. All dimensions and weights approximate. If you have a question or an assumption on an item prior to purchase, please ask. I much prefer to take the time on the front end to make sure you will be satisfied with your purchase.

Remember, when buying vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.
