Photograph Notes: Like many old railways, the now abandoned Teesdale line has become surrounded by trees which would not have survived in the days when it was operational. These add to the character of what is now a walking route with very gentle gradients on the south side of the valley. Although recent high winds have stripped the leaves from many species, including the berry-laden hawthorns, the birches are made of sterner stuff and are still displaying their autumn colours in the brief snatches of sunshine between the showers.
