The Pirelli Calendar, known and trade-marked as "The Cal", is an annual trade calendar which has been published by the UK subsidiary of the Italian tyre manufacturing company Pirelli since 1964. The calendar has a reputation for its choice of photographers and models and featured glamour photography from the 1980s until the 2010s.

Bruce Weber is an American fashion photographer and filmmaker credited with bringing more provocative images of the male body into public spotlight during the 1980s. In both fashion and fine art, his casual photographs of handsome and athletic American youth, redefined the contemporary perception of masculinity. “I don’t really work editorially in a large number of magazines because a lot of magazines don’t want my kind of photographs,” he has said. “It’s too risky for them.” Born on March 29, 1946 in Greensburg, PA, he studied at New York University before embarking on his commercial photography career working on campaigns for Calvin Klein, Abercrombie & Fitch, Versace, and Ralph Lauren, as well as some editorial work for Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Life. Weber’s films include Let’s Get Lost (1988), a novel-like documentary on the troubled jazz trumpeter Chet Baker. He currently lives and works in Miami, FL.
