Vintage, 1962, Mid Century Modern highly collectible dining set from the
Broyhill premier Scupltra line. This MCM dining set consists of the 60"
surfboard table (#6095-40) with the 12" leaf (# 6095-30) extending the
table to 72", plus 1 captain's arm chair (# 6095-84) and 5 side chairs
(# 6095-85). See in photos the manufacturer's stamp from the underside
of a side chair and the Sculptra brochure. Also, as an added bonus, the
set includes original table pads for protection of the table, as well as
the leaf, when not in use.
Walnut wood boat-table features classic Scandinavian Modern clean line
design with gently curved sides and solid wood round tapered legs. Has
automatic locking mechanism that engages when table ends are pushed
together with lever to manually unlock prior to ends being pulled apart
for leaf insertion.
Chairs feature sculpted arches and curves throughout the framing. The
same chair design was also found in the Brasilia (# 6410-85 and #
6410-84) and Emphasis (# 6210-85 and # 6210-84) collections.
Current upholstery fabric in a floral pattern is clean and unstained,
however, reupholstery to match your decor should not be complicated as
the cushions simply lift off and there is no piping to address. A
digitally altered photo has been included to give an idea of the chair
reupholstered in a neutral solid color.
Scupltra Line History: Introduced in 1957 and produced until 1965,
Broyhill’s premier Sculptra line was designed to appeal to Mid-Century
American’s increasing taste for non-traditional design. The line
primarily focused on Danish-design and was composed of furniture with
bonded sculpted moldings, gracefully arched leg stretchers, and cat’s
eye-shaped drawer pulls.
