Antique Leather Wristlet Pocket Watch Holder Strap.

For sale is a very scarce and original leather pocket watch wristlet from the turn of the century. Before the advent of wristwatches, companies crafted leather wristlets to advertise to women for wearing their pocket watches on the wrist as early as the late 1800s. It wasn’t until WWI where there was a clear news for soldiers to wear their pocket watches on the wrist in order to coordinate attacks, time detonations, etc.

The majority of wristlet manufacturers from this time were based in the UK, making this US made wristlet strap ever more unique and collectible. The bottom strap on this wristlet is stamped with a faded maker’s mark. We were able to make out the text “MAKERS”, “USA” and the number “3” inside of a triangle. Whether this wristlet was made for the war effort is unknown.

CONDITION

The leather on this wristlet is still in soft and pliable condition. We cleaned and conditioned the leather to preserve it’s supple nature. As you can see in the photos, it can still be worn on the wrist, but due to the age and scarcity of this piece, it is sold FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

The leather has a few areas of minor wear. The last hole on the strap shows the heaviest amount of use, with some stitching that has come undone, and the leather appears to be slightly separating there. On one area of the pocket watch holder, where the base strap comes through the slotted hole, the top layer of leather has a minor tear, which doesn’t impact usability since the strap is constructed of two thin pieces of leather. There are a few knicks on the pocket watch holder part around the 10-12 o’ clock area.

The original nickel plated buckle shows some signs of putting and rust, but is in overall good condition.

The strap shows wear consistent with its age. Expect knicks, scratches, discoloration, minor cracks/tears, stiffness, rust, etc.
