RARE VICTORIANA -

VICTORIAN FANCY DRESS BALLS (popular social functions in the second half of the 19th century, popular with Queen Victoria).

A rare complete Victorian Fancy Dress Ball photograph album, with 115 cabinet cards of guests in a huge variety of costumes, several of which are hand-coloured, January 11th 1882.

A large and heavy photograph album, containing 115 cabinet cards. The binding richly embossed and with gilt lettering and decoration to the upper cover. All edges gilt. Approx. 8 photographs are hand-coloured, and the remainder are b/w (a few are present in both states). Album measures approx. 40cm x 28cm x 8cm.

Good condition. Front cover detached from spine, but present. Many photographs with some mainly light pale freckling. Card leaves foxed. The final aperture of the album is empty, but it appears to be complete. No leaves have been removed, and the cabinet cards all bear the same Richmond photographer's studio details. Please ask if you require a more detailed condition report, or view gallery images closely.

It is rare to find a complete Victorian fancy dress photograph album, most having been broken for their constituent parts.
