FOURTEEN ORIGINAL ALMANACKS FOR 1753 IN CONTEMPORARY BINDING -

ALMANACKS (annual publications, popular from the 17th century onwards, listing a set of events forthcoming in the next year. It includes information like weather forecasts, farmers' planting dates, tide tables, and other tabular data often arranged according to the calendar. Celestial figures and various statistics are found in almanacs, such as the rising and setting times of the Sun and Moon, dates of eclipses, hours of high and low tides, and religious festivals).

An excellent collection of 14 original almanacks for 1753, in contemporary red morocco binding, including The Ladies Diary, Merlinus Liberatus, The Gentleman's Diary, The Starry Messenger, The English Apollo, Poor Robin, Olympia Dōmata, Vox Stellarum, The British Telescope, etc., etc. 

(London): various publishers [all for the Company of Stationers], [1752] for 1753. Twelve original almanacks. Red tax stamp on each title page. Unpaginated, but typically 48pp per almanack (total of approx. 670 pages). All printed in red and black letterpress. Some scattered illustrations. Numerous tables. Bound together in red morocco, with gilt lozenge, corner pieces and bordering to covers, and spine richly gilt in compartments, with black morocco title label and gilt lettering. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Small 8vo (approx. 16cm x 9.7cm).

Very Good condition internally, in a Good only condition binding. Front board detached but present. Clean and bright examples overall. Please ask if you require a more detailed condition report, or view gallery images.

A very nice collection of 14 scarce almanacks for 1753 (printed at the end of 1752). They have been put together in a lavish binding, and the whole represents an excellent 'country house' example of almanack collecting in the mid-18th century.
