Hand forged bowie knife with antler handle and handmade
leather scabbard
The blade is 7 ½ inches long and 1 ¾ inches wide. The handle
is about 8 inches long, so the total lenghth of this extraordinarily beautiful
knife is just over 15 inches. The scabbard is 8 ½ inches long, 3 inches wide,
and three quarters ( ¾ ) inch thick.
I’m sorry I don’t have the exact specifications of the steel
used, but I kind of recall I was told it was forged from an automotive leaf
spring.
These were hand forged and hand made around 2008 by a member
of the Blacksmith’s Guilds of Central Maryland, which meets monthly at the
Carrol County Farm Museum, in Westminster, Maryland. BGCM is a member guild of ABANA,
the Artist Blacksmiths Association of North America.
This would be outstanding, authentic hand-made accessory for
the fur trade or frontiersman re-enactor headed to a Rendezvous or re-enactment.
Compelling period look because it is entirely hand forged and hand made.
