Rare original satirical Japanese colour woodblock print, with (loosely translated) title 'Fallen tears of a Pekin kiss', February 1895.

Original colour woodblock. Series title and commentary in upper quadrant. Kiyochika's signature and seal in lower right corner. Published and printed in Tokyo by Matsuki Heikichi 松木平吉. February Meiji 28 [1895]. Size: approx. 36cm x 24.8cm.

Very Good condition. Light creasing / edge wear to paper. Please ask if you require a more detailed condition report, and view gallery images closely.

This original ukiyo-e cartoon is from the series 'Society's magic lantern : One hundred selected laughs', published during the Sino-Japanese War.

Under the (loosely translated) title 'Fallen tears of a Pekin kiss', Kiyochika's cartoon satirises the Chinese. The accompanying text by 'Koppi Dojin' is full of rather complex puns. Published by Heikichi in Tokyo in 1895.
