Here is a charming ceramic condiment jar with silver-plate lid and spoon. The white jar has a colorful oval scene on two sides that's labeled in cursive below “Cries of London! Primroses Yellow Primroses”. It is decorated with an English gentlemen and seated lady with child and dog being approached by a little peddler girl with a basket of flowers.

The jar measures 3” tall with 2 ¾” diameter. The condition is good with no chips, cracks, stains or utensil marks but there is crazing all over. The bottom marker’s mark reads “Sandland, Hanley Staffordshire, Made in England” and an indented number that looks like "150".

The silver lid has a spoon slot and a pretty finial handle. It’s in great condition with no dents or damage. I have not tried to polish the light tarnish. The lid underside is engraved “EPNS” with a three-leaf clover or shamrock between the letters and “Made in England”. Below this is a hand etched number that looks like “8L057”. According to this hallmark with shamrock, the silversmith company might be Barker Brothers.

The silver spoon measures 5 ½” long. It is marked on the back of the handle with “EPNS Made in England”. Condition is great with no dents or bends. I have not polished away the light tarnish.

This certainly looks like an antique with the crazing and silver EPNS (electro plated nickel silver) components but from researching the jar’s backstamp, I believe it is c.1955.

Sandland advertised as “Makers of tableware accessories and general fancies” starting in the 1940s. The potter closed down in 1968.

Thanks for looking.
