This marvelous antique miniature watering can is created in gorgeous Continental silver with pastoral scenes on each side.  The first side shows a shepard with his dog and the other with a courting couple, with the male offering the female a bouquet.  Although the Dutch produced many miniatures, it may have been produced as Hanau silver in Germany.  During the French Revolution, most of the artistic silver was destroyed.  The Germans started making replicas in Continental silver with the same whimsical designs, as did the French.  The hallmarks used were replicas of the original French hallmarks.  Since I did not find the following hallmarks in Tardy's, this beautiful miniature most likely is Hanau produced in Germany in the late 1800s.  Hallmarks are:  Ship with an anchor, Crown over a shield with two stars, flower, shield with what appears to be a scale.  Measurements for this fabulous creation are:  Height from top to bottom including handle=1-7/8 inches, Length from end of spout to handle=3-1/4 inches, Width from side to side=1 inch. This marvelous miniature watering can has been well cared for, gently displayed and is in excellent antique condition, free from chips, cracks, scratches, damage or repairs.  This beautiful watering can is the perfect addition to your miniatures collection or for your doll house, particularly is you like the pastoral scene.
