1975: Sony introduces the Betamax video recorder. Revolutionary for its day, the Betamax format was on its way to becoming the industry standard until the appearance of JVC’s VHS a year later. Betamax was probably a bit sharper and crisper, but VHS offered longer-playing ability, which made it possible to record an entire movie on one three hour tape.

Although Betamax continues to enjoy a connoisseur's niche to this day, DVDs, DVRs and digital downloads have rendered both Betamax and VHS passé. Sony built its last Betamax recorder in 2002, over 21 years ago.

This auction features an original Sony Beta Cassette "For Home Video Recording" sealed in the original blister pack display card.  This tape is actually double sealed as the tape itself is sealed inside the original blister pack.  This is the original tape exactly as released in the "tuxedo style" outer box with the important notice card still attached.  I've never even seen a complete and original "Beta Cassette" like this offered for sale.  This is a true time capsule.

The blister pack / display card is completely intact (except for the punch hole) and 100% sealed all around.  The card itself shows signs of edge wear and has multiple creases.  The bottom left corner shows signs of separation in the cardboard - see pictures for details.

I don't know how many of these original tapes - double sealed in blister pack still exist today.  Collectors - Here's your chance.

The ad from 1975 is for listing purposes only and is NOT included in this auction.

Thanks for looking and thanks for your consideration.
