An original vintage red-numbered NASA Gemini V orbital photograph of the Earth taken by astronaut Gordon Cooper or Charles Conrad on board the Gemini V spacecraft on 25th August 1965 (Ref: Earth Photographs from Gemini III IV and V, NASA, Washington D.C, 1967).

The photograph shows a sweeping panorama of parts of India, Tibet and the Himalaya Mountains.

On the Gemini 5 mission, from 21st-29th August 1965, astronauts Gordon Cooper and Pete Conrad circled the world 120 times in 190 hours and 55 minutes, returning with dramatic colour photographs of the surface of the Earth. Apogee was 215 miles and perigee 100 miles. The photographs were taken with the hand-held NASA-modified 70mm Hasselblad 500C and its 80mm lens, using MS Ektachrome thin base film, ASA 64. which provided photos of a clarity not seen before. Some of the images graced the cover and pages of LIFE Magazine (Most remarkable photos of Earth ever recorded, September 24, 1965).
