Description: This old antique print originates from: 'Dictionnaire des graveurs anciens et modernes depuis l'origine de la gravure, avec une notice des principales estampes qu'ils ont grav�es : suivi du Catalogue des �uvres de Jacques Jordans et de Corneille Visscher, Paris, 1767, in-8 ; re-edition, 1789. This work contains many original plates as well as some plates copied by Basan after others. This original (but cut off) plate was originally published c. 1720.
Artists and Engravers: This plate by F. Chereau after Hyacinthe Rigaud (French 1659-1743). Fran�ois I Chereau (1680-1729) French engraver and publisher, was a student of Gerard Audran and Pierre Drevet. Author: Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a 'Dictionnaire des Graveurs' in 1789.

Subject: Plate : This plate shows a portrait of Jacques-Benigne Bossuet (1627 - 1704). He was a French bishop and theologian, renowned for his sermons and other addresses. He has been considered by many to be one of the most brilliant orators of all time and a masterly French stylist.
Condition: Good. General age-related toning. Light staining. Please study scan carefully.
