This is a Riley RMF (2.5 litre) four speed gearbox made between 1953 & 1957.

I have taken the top plate off, and examined the internals without dismantling the entire box. I found no sign of faults, or of significant wear. All the gears seem to engage as they should. The oil when drained seemed to be free from metallic particles. The gearwheels are in good condition, and I could find no appreciable wear in the bearings. I therefore reassembled the casing, and had my plans not changed, would have installed it in my car as a good, functioning unit.
I have since cleaned off the cast iron casing and painted it. I have also replated the small external fasteners.
