Occasional foxing otherwise an exceptionally good copy of the 1st edition. 23 x 15cm.

Valuable information on Singapore's early days as well as the two other Straits Settlements of Malacca and Penang under British rule in the nineteenth century, their history, geography, agriculture, commerce, government and social life are vividly described. There are 5 views in and around Singapore (including the double-page plate), one of a country road in Penang and one in the province of Wellesley.
