Maundy Money dates back to Charles II, where a ceremony was take place drawn from the bible to give coins to the elderly from the monarch. The coins given by Charles in 1662 were 4 undated hammered coins, 1 Penny, 2 Penny, 3 Penny and 4 Penny pieces. After 1670 the coins were dated but haven't changed much else since. Now a days the ceremony takes place every Maundy Thursday.
