Having recorded nearly 150 cassettes, Cheb Hasni remains one of the most prolific and talented raï singers of his generation.

The first volume of the three is presented here, released in 2022 on the Outre National label under MLP license.

Raï is the music of a youth who is hungover after the recent independence of Algeria. It has become the space for a liberated and transgressive dialogue which speaks the social truths of its time. 

A frank but poetic voice that covers the taboos and frustrations of everyday life, expressing emotion directly. This voice can be heard in weddings, cabarets, nightclubs on the Oran coast, or even in the street. With the rise of the audio cassette, an avalanche of raï cassettes was produced in Oran and broadcast throughout the country.

In this style, Cheb Hasni embodies, with Cheb Nasro, a second generation of musicians. With the "raï d'amour", or sentimental raï, Hasni sings of love, passion and its setbacks, thus moving away from the bittersweet daily chronicles of the first chebs and chebates.
