Photograph Notes: The current farmhouse is the remnant of a former 16th century mansion built by the Jefferay family known as Chiddingly Place. The 'E' shaped building fell into ruin toward the end of the 19th century and was partially demolished with the bricks reused to build the Martello Towers along the Sussex coast. The west wing completely disappeared whilst part of the east wing became Chapel Barn, see [[2817116]] and [[2793354]], which spent nearly 200 years as a farm building before conversion back to a residence at the start of this century. The farmhouse is what remains of the centre portion of the mansion.
