This is a hand-carved shorebird out of a hard wood - I suspect walnut.  Great lines - glass eyes - finished wood (not painted) - 15 inches long.  Two holes for legs look older - oxidized - making me think this piece is probably from the mid 20th century.  No legs, no stand.
