Three decorated boxes.  Paul Edward Walker (born 1949 -Savannah, Georgia) - Black, Southern Outsider Artist.  Walker on his art "I made art out of what people were throwing away (. . . ) Black people in this country had nothing.  So I made something out of nothing."   Walker was inspired, as a young man, to make sculptures by depression era Tramp Art made from cigar boxes.

Generation Box - Walker depicts himself and his younger brother Carl - "Them Walker Boys" - presented "To: Pop & Mom Mae - David - James - Marion", "Place: Sav.Ga.", "Date: Sept.-27-94".  Made from a cigar box 9 1/2" x 8 1/4" x 1 3/8" - blue velvet interior.  A later version of this box is in the collection of the Telfair Museums.

Caution Box - also constructed from a cigar box, Walker expresses his distrust of power and media that "only show you what they want you to see."  The box represents our minds, nailed down and closed off to reality.  Studded with black nails, this work communicates with the viewer on a viseral, physical level, suggeasting the pain and discomfort that occur when the spikes encounter skin.  Signed and dated '97.

African Heritage Box - also constructed of cigar (PHILLIES BLUNT) boxes, feature a graphic portrayal of a gathering of African warriors.
