Looks good, in "as found" original condition, foxing, matte has tone and foxing, matte is glued down, frame has minor wear-- please look at photos carefully. Glass may be removed or shipped with the artwork according to the buyer's preferences.
Great looking composition by A. Duncan Carse! This image depicts an Art Nouveau style fantasy illustration of a baby surrounded by crab, jellyfish, and other marine life. This painting was created for a collection of short stories by Lucy M. Scott titled Dewdrops from Fairyland
which was originally published in 1912. The stories were written by the
author when she was just nine years old, produced sporadically and
originally entitled ‘Entirely Unaided’. Stories
include: ‘Silver Wings’ Visit to Earth’, ‘Tiger-Lily Sprite’, ‘The Last
Bee of Summer’, ‘The Immortal Baby’, ‘The Witch and the Goblin’, ‘When
the Sun and Moon Met’, ‘The First Rose Beetle’, ‘A Blackberry Tale’, and
‘Mrs. Nightingale’s Evening Party’. Carse was well known for his fantasy illustrations. This is a fine example of Carse's paintings and a fantastic original work from the Golden Age of illustration. My price of $1499 is extremely reasonable and far below what one would be expected to pay for it in a gallery or at auction.

Biography:
Andreas Duncan Carse (1875/76–1938) was an English artist.
Carse was born in 1875 or 1876 in
Newcastle upon Tyne to Norwegian and Scottish parents. His two large works
Birds of the Old World and
Birds of the New World were selected by Cunard in 1933 to be on their new flagship liner, the
Queen Mary. Documents are held in the National Archive. He illustrated the
Hans Christian Andersen Fairytales 1912 edition. and the Lucy M. Scott Dewdrops from Fairyland 1912. He exhibited with the
British Council at the Biennale in 1912.
Carse exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1904 and then regularly
between 1922 and 1938. He also exhibited at the Fine Art Society, the
London Salon and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. Carse created paintings to decorate a ceiling at the Detroit Athletic Club
with over 1,000 different figures before the First World War. The
paintings were covered at the club but they were on show again after a
remodeling of the club in 1999.]
He died in 1938 in Wokingham, Berkshire.
A Memorial Exhibition was held at
Reading Art Gallery in January 1939.
