Most PlayStation 2 Slim models use a ribbon cable attached with adhesive. Over time the cable can loosen and start scratching discs as the laser assembly moves. Replacing the ribbon cable fixes this issue, as well as various other problems caused by damage to the ribbon. Even if the original ribbon is still OK, replacing it is recommended as a precaution to avoid any potential disc damage.
IMPORTANT: All left over adhesive from the factory ribbon must be removed prior to installation. Professional installation recommended. This ribbon cable is ONLY compatible with PS2 Slim SCPH-90001.
