ANTIQUE
BRONZE
ART NOUVEAU MAIDEN
SEAL HOLDER
c1890
A very pretty seal holder in the form of a flirtatious maiden in what is
believed to be bronze. Relatively heavy for its size its deep conker colour is
really attractive and the piece is well cast. It stands at an appealing angle
as shown in the images. The aperture to the underside is a threaded brass
insert ready to accommodate a seal.
Estimated to have been made around the late Victorian period (c1890) it
is in good condition for its years but it has evidence of handling, some
rubbing and the odd little knock. The flatness to the nose, which may have
occurred during firing, and grazed elbows bear witness to this and can be seen
on close inspection. Please see images for further details.
Displays beautifully, a rare and super piece highly evocative of the
then prevailing Art Nouveau movement.
Unattributed, similar in style and execution to WMF but no marks found.
