RETURN NOTE ON TYPE SETS: If a set is opened and rearranged in any way, we will not accept a return or exchange. You should be able to un-tape just the top cardboard so you can see the complete set without risking anything falling out or apart. Anything rearranged or changed is not eligible for return.  If you do need to return a set for any reason, you must contact us first and you MUST package and tape it very well or it will fall apart in shipment. If it is returned to us not exactly the same as you received it, eBay will void your return.

This type is being sold as-is and uncleaned used condition.  This type is OLD, characters may have nicks, scratches, dents, breaks, oxidation, corrosion, and layered ink, etc.  Again, to avoid any issues, do not bid if this is not fully understood.

Only Set: There are roughly 1135 letters/numbers/figures in this set (in photos, please see letter chart for reference and example sheet of the type), not including 17 extra random sized quads/spacers to square the block of type.  The block of type measures approximately 5 x 4” and is best shipped in a small flat rate box as it weighs over 5.3 lbs.  This is the only set we have of this, we have no more of it in this point size, but we do have other point sizes available so see our other listings!

SET SPECIFIC NOTE: This set is complete but has low numbers on certain pieces.  Look at the photos carefully, some are in great shape, most look completely unused.  Overall, a pretty great set!

See photos for how we wrap these for shipment, each set is tied with string and then taped, and finally sandwiched between thick cardboard with more tape, then brown paper, a Ziplock bag and then bubble wrap.  The top will be marked for easier opening. OPEN WITH CAUTION or you will have a pile of type on your floor.

Please see photos for type condition, these were all used previously so there may be flaws, ink or other imperfections.  We MAY add a random number of spacers to make this set as square as possible.  Please be aware that working with this many letters we can make mistakes but we are doing our best!  We only have ONE set of this font/type/size, be sure to look at ALL of the photos.

Wikipedia: Cloister is a serif typeface designed by Morris Fuller Benton and published by American Type Founders (ATF).  Cloister bold italic was released in 1915. It is loosely based on the printing of Nicolas Jenson in Venice in the 1470s, in what is now called the "old style" of serif fonts. ATF presented it as an attractive but highly usable typeface, suitable for body and display use.  

All of the type in this listing comes from the printing press that was originally located at Redwood High School in Larkspur, California.  We are unsure how many decades the high school had this press or the type, but we believe it dates back to the early 1900s.  Our father purchased the press, the cabinets, the drawers, and the type in the 1970s and it has been sitting in storage for over 50 years. 

We are slowly separating out sets of type for sale. Please see photos for closer details and overall condition.   We will list details as accurately as possible, but things can be missed so ask questions before buying if you have any.  While our items are described to the best of our ability, they are always sold as-is.  PLEASE ask questions - we are happy to provide additional information/photos upon request.  These will be shipped in a small priority flat rate box as it is the most economical way to ship them.

Items purchased on Friday may not be shipped until Monday.  While we do ship on SOME Saturdays, shipments are generally processed Monday through Friday during regular business hours. 

If payment is not received within 3 days an automatic unpaid item case will be opened on eBay.  If you need additional time to pay for an item, please request this BEFORE you place a bid.
