An old silk embroidery that would have been used originally as the cuff of a woman’s robe.
The antique Chinese pale brown silk embroidered sleeve band is embroidered with a design of Chinese beauties in a garden using satin stitch and forbidden stitch. The design has a pavilion, trees, flowers, butterflies and water. The embroidery has been framed with a silk brocade with black silk borders. The back has a loose weave cloth of cotton or linen.
There is a stamped word on the back of the embroidery. I can read “LAPC” but can’t make out the rest. There is some pencil writing on the back in one corner. It looks like the letter A.
MEASUREMENTS
23” (58.4 cm) long x 7 ¼” (18.4 cm) wide. Weighs 1.3 oz (35 g)
CONDITION
There is some staining to the background. Some threads are loose, particularly in the water and on the tree. The colors still look fairly good and appear to have faded very little.
An antique silk embroidery to add to a collection of textiles or frame and use in the décor.
