An original short handwritten and signed letter from Victor Bruce, 9th Earl of Elgin, sent from Broomhall House in Dumfries, two years after his return from India where he served as Viceroy, dated May 3rd 1901.

In black ink. Written on one side of a sheet of laid watermarked writing  paper, with the embossed seal of 'New Club' in Edinburgh. Addressed from 'Broomhall Dumfriesshire' to 'My dear Reiss' and signed at foot 'Elgin'. Dated 'May 3. 1901'. Page size - 18cm x 11.4cm. In very good overall condition. Folds for mailing, the blank conjoined leaf has been trimmed away.
