This is a scaled-up reproduction of one of the Lewis chessmen Bishops, giving a blessing with one hand and carrying a staff in the other.  The arms of his throne are decorated with celtic knots, while the back has a celtic foliate design, incorporating a snake and bird.

It is modelled based on one of the original 12th century Viking pieces found in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Each piece is individually hand cast in solid reconstituted stone (concrete), with an aged sandstone finish.

Solid and heavy, the Bishop weighs approximately 7.5 kg

Measurements (approx):-
  • Height 33cm
  • Width 16cm
  • Depth 12cm

As each piece is hand made, there may be some slight variation in finish from piece to piece.

Please see my other listings for other Lewis Chess pieces.

Pieces can also be cast in terracotta red or natural grey.  Please message me if you would like one of these colours.  If not already in stock, they will take a few days to cast and finish.
