Cast and recast a three-pound lead hammer, which includes a mold, handle, and a five-pound lead bar. This hammer is an excellent choice for machinists or gunsmiths, helping to prevent damage to parts. Lead hammers deliver heavy blows with minimal rebound and no surface blemishes, making them suitable for use on expensive or delicate ferrous (iron, steel), nonferrous (aluminum, copper), and plastic parts. With a proven design spanning over a century, this tool ensures durability and reliability.

Note: Customers outside the USA will receive two handles and no lead bar due to US Postal Service regulations. This listing does not include any props shown in the photo section (bench, gloves, torch, etc.). Import duty/tax is the responsibility of the buyer.

Manufactured in Rhode Island, USA, we are an authorized distributor for Cook Hammer Company, Inc. According to the Cook Hammer website, the molds feature a built-in ladle that holds the precise amount of molten lead required to form the hammer head. A c-clamp and thumb screw securely hold the mold together until the metal sets. The handles are reusable and constructed of solid steel with a rubber grip.

Instructions (See Photos):

  1. Place the hammer handle in the mold and close it securely with a c-clamp and thumb screw for casting.
  2. Fill the ladle with lead.
  3. Heat the lead with a propane torch until it liquefies. Exercise caution as the melted lead is extremely hot.
  4. Once the lead is completely melted, pour it into the mold by tipping the ladle. Note: The mold is designed to evacuate excess lead through the overflow vent, so some spillage may occur.
  5. Allow the mold to sit for fifteen minutes before opening it to reveal the freshly molded hammer.
  6. Congratulations! Your new hammer is now ready to use. If the hammer becomes overly deformed, melt and recast it."
