- IN VINTAGE WOODEN FRAME -

Hand-coloured manuscript map of Europe by pupil W. Mulvey of Brunswick House School, dated Christmas 1866.

Original vintage manuscript map on paper. Framed and glazed. Country borders, mountains and rivers delineated in pen & ink, and countries in-filled with wash colouring. Names of countries, provinces and cities also in pen & ink. The map is enclosed within a decorative border, within which the pupil has annotated with his name, date of production, and name and address of his school. The border appears to be partly or wholly chromolithographic. The scale, in lower right corner, seems set to 1 inch per 300 miles. Size: (inc. frame): 43.5cm x 36cm. Condition: some light age-toning to edges of sheet. A few small surface blemishes, and a couple of small brown spots, as well as two small brown patches at head and foot of sheet, just touching the border.

An excellent example of a manuscript map by a mid-Victorian school pupil. The frame seems contemporary to the map i.e. 1860s or 1870s.
