This orange desiccant takes the guesswork out of when to refresh your desiccant. Orange silica gel will turn from orange to green when saturated. 

Silica gel has the ability to absorb up to 40 per cent of its weight at 90 per cent relative humidity. It has the advantage of being used several times before losing its absorbing ability. When re-activated (dried out), the beads will go back to being orange.

All these orange silica bags are made out of a non-woven material that is semitransparent it is mixed with white beads. These are food safe.

Recycling Instructions:

Spread silica gel on a tray and place in an oven at 115°C to 125°C for approximately 2-3 hours or until beads turn orange again. Once the silica gel has been reactivated, remove it from the oven and let it cool until able to handle. Store silica gel in a sealed container until ready to use.

Storage:
The key to retaining the satchel's usefulness is to keep it under air-tight conditions until it needs to be used. Silica gel will adsorb moisture from any environment, so a sachet left out in the open will immediately start taking up water vapour. Although the moisture uptake rate is not fast, small sachets can be vulnerable to such exposure, as they do not have a sizeable moisture-holding capacity.

It is recommended that they are not left open to the atmosphere for longer than 15 minutes. Larger sachets should not be removed from their packaging more than 1 hour before they are required for use. The shelf life of silica gel in a sealed environment can safely be said to be between 18 and 24 months. Practical experience has shown that it can often far exceed this.
