1997-P American Silver Eagle Proof The 1997-P Proof Silver Eagle coin is a rare collector coin. As demand for the coin in 1997 was low, fewer proofs were minted than in previous years, making the coin rare today. The final mintage, produced at the Philadelphia mint, was the third-lowest in the entire series. The 1997-P Proof American Silver Eagle is certified in perfect grade by world recognized NGC.  Of the 440,315 proofs minted in 1997, 5,000 were struck to be included in the special Impressions of Liberty Set. The mint issued the set as part of the platinum eagles launch. It contained a proof of each of the Silver, Gold, and Platinum Eagles.  1997 Silver Eagle Proof The 1997-P Proof American Silver Eagle, is minted from an ounce of .999 fine silver in the same design as all other coins in the series. The coin has a diameter of 40.60mm. The coin's obverse features a depiction of the Walking Liberty that was initially designed for the walking liberty half dollar coin. Adolph A. Weinman designed the obverse in 1916. The design features Liberty walking purposefully towards a new day, which is symbolized by using an image of a sunrise. This represents America as a nation walking towards a bright future. It also symbolizes freedom, peace, and independence.  The American silver eagle coins' reverse has a heraldic eagle and shield design. It was created by US Mint engraver John Mercanti.
