The 61st Tactical Airlift Squadron (TAS) was a United States Air Force unit that served during the Vietnam War. The squadron was responsible for providing tactical airlift support to American and allied ground forces throughout South Vietnam.

The 61st TAS was activated in August 1967 and was equipped with the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. The squadron was based at Nha Trang Air Base in South Vietnam, and its mission was to provide airlift support to ground forces in all regions of the country.

The squadron's primary task was to transport troops, equipment, and supplies to and from remote and often hostile areas throughout South Vietnam. The C-130 Hercules was a versatile aircraft that was capable of operating from unimproved airstrips, making it an ideal platform for providing tactical airlift support in Vietnam.

In addition to its airlift missions, the 61st TAS also supported other Air Force operations in Vietnam. The squadron's C-130s were used to drop leaflets and supplies, conduct psychological operations, and provide airborne command and control support.

During the course of the war, the 61st TAS flew thousands of missions, transporting personnel and equipment to some of the most dangerous and remote areas of the country. The squadron's pilots and crew members were recognized for their bravery and dedication to the mission, and many received awards and decorations for their service.

The 61st TAS was inactivated in March 1973 as part of the U.S. military's drawdown of forces in Vietnam. However, the squadron's legacy lives on, and it is remembered as a crucial component of the Air Force's efforts to support American and allied ground forces during the Vietnam War.
