A hauntingly beautiful portrait attributed to well listed New Zealand/English artist Kathleen Browne (1905-2007).

Depicting a thoughtful looking woman with red hair and a large red-bordered scarf around her head. Behind her is a lake wiht mountains beyond.

Unsigned but was purchased at a Sussex auction in 2021 with two other works by the artist.    The name Marik Berovski is inscribed verso by a later hand which could be the name of the sitter, the purchaser etc.

Painted in oils on a wooden panel. Could it be the painting titled 'Girl in the Field' exhibited by Browne at the Royal Academy in 1982??

In very good condition, the only points to note are a mark on the surface bottom right which looks to have been caused by a knot in the wood - see third photograph above. Also in some lights two faint parallel horizontal lines are visible about 2" from the bottom of the bottom, they look like two drips of varnish or similar have run down the painting at some time.

Well presented in a dark wooden frame with carved detail which is in excellent condition.

As it is unsigned I will provide a Certificate of Authenticity with the information I have given above.

Measures 52 x 42cm including the frame, the painting only is 45 x 35cm.

Postage £8 to mainland UK, £26 to mainland Europe and £50 to the USA.
