ITEM 877 CONDITION 

The items are in used condition with visible wear to the patina on both items due to age, handling, and usage. 

ITEM 877 DESCRIPTION 

A pair of French bronze-patinated and parcel gilt-spelter figures of women. 

The female figures are allegorical, representing America and Africa. 

Cast after models by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Beleuse, around circa 1900-1915. 

Albert-Ernest Carrier-Beleuse (1824-1887) is probably best known as a sculptor of small-scale bronzes and terracotta sculptures which were conceived from the outset as compositions to be replicated in considerable numbers. 

One figure is wearing an Egyptian costume with her foot resting on a crocodile. 

The other figure has foliage to her hair wearing a bearskin and shell necklace. Her foot is resting on the shell of a turtle. 

The circular bases moulded with the artist's name, A. Carrier. 

Circa late 19th/Early 20th century.
