A framed antique tapestry.
It is a depiction of the astrological zodiac sign Gemini which runs from May 21 to June 21.
Gemini is traditionally represented by twins, reflecting the adaptability of people born under this sign who are thought to be be open to change and the exchange of ideas thus having a duality of nature.
Here the twins are depicted as two men in eighteenth century clothing standing hand in hand. They are enclosed within a circle surrounded by symbols. Above is the title Gemini with dates on either side 21 V and 21 VI.
Estimated to date to the early 1900s. The tapestry is in very good condition, the only point to note a faint horizontal line about half way down on the left hand side - see the fourth photograph.
Presented in a black wood frame with gilt trim which is in very good condition.
Glazed and ready to hang.
Measures 29 x 26cm.
