1982 G.I. JOE JUMP JET PACK

Originally released in 1983 the J.U.M.P. (Jet Mobile Propulsion Unit) features positionable support legs (4), a removable jet pack and laser gun - both originals are not included.  It has pretty good sticker placement.

I have replaced the original flexible black power cord with a small black hose that fits into the backpack slot pretty tight. The aftermarket jet-pack fits tight into the console, the console has 2/2 tabs and still sits on the launch pad tight. The incredible 2007 Convention Exclusive "Tanks for the Memories" custom made after-market flames look awesome - I have shaved down the tips to mate them to the exhaust for a tight fit - I have also drilled holes into the exhaust port so the tabs of the flames mate even tighter. The lattice of the launch pad are all intact, and all 4 legs slide on and fit snug.

The vintage Steel Brigade "Checkpoint" ENGLISH File card is cut well and vibrant. A custom commissioned Steel Brigade 4x3 inch unused sticker, the 1991 IMPEL cards #54 is near mint and great for display.

The J.U.M.P., or Jet Mobile Propulsion Unit, is like many other weapons used by the Joes in that it is highly experimental. It essentially consists of a strap-on, back-mounted rocket pack that gives the Joe wearing it exceptional air-based mobility, and is itself possessed of these statistics:

Mounted on the J.U.M.P. as a sort of sidearm is a laser rifle similar to that which Flash uses as part of his field weaponry, one that can be used to inflict Armor Piercing Energy damage with each deadly burst, and can fire about ten shots before it needs to be recharged.

The J.U.M.P., which has a top speed of about 150 miles per hour, can fly for up to two hours without needing a refuel. The controls for the pack, along with an infrared sight are located on top of the laser rifle - allowing its pilot to effectively fly and shoot at the same time.

The J.U.M.P.'s operation is enhanced by these features:

Control Station: this computer has a specialized hookup with the J.U.M.P. that allows it to run diagnostic tests on the unit, as well as properly monitor the rocket pack while it is in use. It can track the J.U.M.P. with average ability, meaning that this feature works as long as the pack is within 100 miles.

Gear Cases: the J.U.M.P. has, spread about its other features, various cases filled with useful gear. It has a fully stocked first aid kit, tool kit, and a few spare parts should the rocket pack get damaged slightly while being used in the field.

Launch Pad: this V.T.O.L platform, especially designed for use with the J.U.M.P., is built from a magnesium frame (lightweight for transport purposes) but topped with a titanium landing pad, which can easily resist the flames and thrust generated by the J.U.M.P.'s taking off and landing.

Refueling Stations: the J.U.M.P. is usually mounted on a special rack adjacent to its launch pad, one that hooks into the fuel pump and power pack of the rocket pack and laser rifle, respectively. Assuming a ready supply of fuel and electricity is available, the J.U.M.P. can be used in the field long-term.

Appearance: green, black and silver helmet with black visor and underside; light blue shirt; tan vest with black strap and gloves; beige pants with green kneepads and silver/black belt and black boots. The silver arm insignia is still very silver and intact.

Accessories: a black laser gun that fits into the black hose, Color-matching tan Airborne/Duke backpack he was issued with; Airborne style assault rifle and original style black Recoil rifle he was issued with - handle fits fine without thumbs exploding, the figure stand pictured is included. The color-matching tan jet pack fits tight, I have drilled out the exhaust ports so that the flames fit better.

The Steel Brigade was first available in 1987 as a mail-in offer from Hasbro Direct. The offer was hyped as a "personalized" figure, and came with a personalized bio certificate. It essentially was a figure made up of repainted parts from other figures with the head being the only original piece.

From the years 1987 through 1994, Steel Brigade figures were offered off and on from Hasbro Direct. As the years passed, different parts of different figures were recolored and used to create new variations of the Steel Brigade figure.

Variations: There are at least six released variants for Steel Brigade, differing primarily in the parts used to construct the figure. There was quite a bit of overlap in the release of these variants, except that Variant F was not released before 1992. F is distinguished by gold trim on the helmet and belt, with a dark green vest over a dark blue outfit. The "Gold Head Steel Brigade" is considered an ultra-high-demand item and is counted as a separate version by some collectors.

The Steel Brigade security force was formed in 1993 as a clandestine means of logistical support for the G.I. Joe Team. Cobra appeared to be gaining strength and stretching the Joes' resources thin, and given the team's unofficial status, the old Army-supplied "greenshirts" were no longer an option. The paratroopers whose appearance is represented by Version 1 accompanied Joes on away missions or occasionally did scouting and simple intelligence gathering on their own.

The STEEL BRIGADE PARATROOPERS are members of the G.I. JOE Team's international Security Force. They can quickly provide regional stability to "hot spots" throughout the world without drawing the attention that the visible presence of the regular G.I. JOE Team would. Each STEEL BRIGADE combat team functions as a reconnaissance, intelligence, surveillance, and target acquisition squadron. The entire subteam is comprised of specially talented and highly trained individuals, both military and civilian, some of whom distinguish themselves sufficiently enough to later be chosen to join the G.I. JOE Team full time.
The STEEL BRIGADE PARATROOPER helmet has a built-in oxygen mask and communications system that allows each soldier to be tied into a tactical local-area network with their STEEL BRIGADE COMMANDER. The visor has optical display screens with a heads-up targeting sight along with night vision and infrared heat source sensors. Although the helmets look strange, these guys can meet any challenge head on!
