In 1872 the Quartermaster Department ordered that second capes be added to leftover Civil War Infantry Greatcoats to make them more suitable for the harsh conditions of the Western US. We have recreated this second cape so you can convert your Model 1859 greatcoat to the 1873 double cape model. Capes are unlined, like originals. These capes attach with buttons, which are included. You will have to sew the seven attaching buttons on to your greatcoat around the collar and under the original cape.
