Description:- Early 19th Century 'Improved Stone China' Part Dessert Service - Likely made by Meigh at Old Hall Pottery Hanley.

Comprising

1 x Footed tazza - unbranded - approx 5.75 inches in height by APPROZ 10.25 inches diameter to the top
2 x  Oblong Serving Dishes - unbranded  - Measures approx 11.25 inches by 8.25 inches max points
6 x 9 inch diameter Dessert Plates - 2 are damaged, see condition below. All have a lozenge impressed to the backs 'Improved Stone China' See Maker below

Condition:- One plate has a hairline crack to the rim ( see photo 22) it is slightly noticeable to the front, but mostly hidden by the trellis border. Another plate has two obvious chips to the rim ( see photos 17 & 18) . Other than the cracked plate all the pieces 'ring' to some extent when tapped. I have noticed a few very small losses to the hand painted floral sprays but these are very minor. Gilding on the serving pieces is good

Maker:- The dessert plates have an impressed stamp which was a little difficult to decipher but the wording is 'Improved Stone China' and I've traced this to one of the Meigh manufacturers of Old Hall Pottery Hanley . Charles Meigh was active between 1835 & 1849 and Charles Meigh & Son between 1851 & 1861; but usually there are other identifying marks on their wares. The mark was also used by Job Meigh, the first of the Meighs at Old Hall who was active between 1805 & 1834. (the source of these details is Goddens) My view is that this service was manufactured sometime between 1805 & 1840.
