History on This Day: Reggie Miller taunts Spike Lee in playoffs…………

On this day in 1994, Reggie Miller hit an NBA record five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to lead the Indiana Pacers to a 93-86 win in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Miller finished with a game-high 39 points, six assists and one steal to help the Pacers to a 3-2 series lead over the New York Knicks. He registered 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Pacers erased a 12-point deficit to shock the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The Pacers outscored the Knicks 35-16 during the final period of that contest, with Miller even taunting famed fan Spike Lee. Of course, the outcome spawned the infamous gesture around his neck that the Knicks choked late in the game.

The performance by Miller still stands as one of the best examples of a player catching fire in the playoffs.

His record of five 3-pointers in a quarter was tied by several players before being broken when Antoine Walker had six with the Boston Celtics on April 28, 2002. Damian Lillard equaled that mark when he had six on May 24, 2021.

Miller often elevated his game in the playoffs, especially against the Knicks. He turned in some of his best career performances against New York, as the Hall of Famer hit huge shots against them during their heated rivalry in the 1990s.
