Susan Charkes is a native of southeastern Pennsylvania where she writes about nature, outdoor recreation, the environment, and sustainability. She is a hike leader with the Appalachian Mountain Club and the author of AMC's Best Day Hikes Near Philadelphia: Four-season Guide to 50 of the Best Trails in Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. She works in the nonprofit management and communications field.
