OMEGA x Swatch Speedmaster MoonSwatch Mission to Mercury chronograph watch

Excellent condition, minimal use, selling as owning a MoonSwatch quickly persuaded me that I wanted to buy the Omega Speedmaster Professional on which it's based.

If you're looking at this listing you've almost certainly already heard of the "MoonSwatch" and read about its phenomenal impact on the watch world in the last year.

I bought this a little after Christmas at a price close to retail, as I'd always loved the Speedmaster Professional from afar and the MoonSwatch seemed like a great opportunity to get a slice of the action at a fraction of the price.

It is absurdly fun and comfortable to wear. I tried it on a few of the 20mm straps I've lying around, but none of them looked as good (IMO) as the slightly silver-toned Velcro strap it came with.

Frankly, I'm loathed to sell it, as it's given me so much pleasure. But I've a strict 3 watch-only rule (otherwise I would have an unmanageable addiction) and have no need for two very similar (but also very different) chronographs.

At one level, this watch really does "scratch the Speedmaster itch". I would look down at my wrist and see the word "OMEGA" and think "for less than £300, haha!" But I soon found my inner monologue saying "gosh, for 42mm case size it really does wear very well, and those twisted lugs are so gorgeous even in 'bioceramic'...the Speedmaster Professional in steel must feel amazing..."

And then you try on a SpeedMaster Professional and it is amazing, and you decide "well I could wait until I retire and enjoy this for a decade or so before I die, or I could just buy the d@mn thing now for a good second hand price and have that pleasure for (hopefully) many decades!"

You will read reviews of the MoonSwatch decrying its poor water resistance, plastic feel and easily scratched crystal. These points are all true, but they frankly miss the point entirely. For the vast majority, a traditional watch is principally a near wholly subjective purchase. It is bought because of how it makes you feel, because of the enjoyment it brings etc.

The Speedmaster design is a true classic of the 20th century, and this 21st century take on it is, as I said earlier, just a lot of fun.

I can confirm that, as per the many online reviews, the acrylic crystal marks relatively easily. But a lens-cloth + polyWatch works wonders and I've totally removed all the scratches (see 6th photo) and returned the original peely sticker onto the top of the watch.

Only case mark anywhere is on the underside of the lugs where there are some very, very light marks from removing the spring bars. As I have used the strap, it is now creased where I have set the velcro, and there's a tiny knick in the fabric caused by a spring bar tool (see final photo).

Watch comes with all the original packaging, booklets etc. and the original Swatch store purchase receipt.
