Fabulous 19th century French check valance. Wonderful deep scallop with cotton fringe trim.

Wonderful homespun banding at top where the valance has been pleated and used for hanging strength as well.

The fabric dates the early 1800's the fringe is much later so most likely sewn in late 18th more likely early 19th.

The pleating and fringe are hand sewn and the width was machine sewn from 3 full width of fabric with their blue selvedge edges intact!

In beautiful condition for age and use. Lovely raspberry red, pink and white.

Condition: excellent two small changing hand mends and some small holes on band from where it was hung by nails, otherwise there are no major flaws to note.

Please see photos and use zoom for additional item detail and condition.

This would be lovely hung as is over a large window or over a single with edges hanging down as in first photo.  Could also be reworked for you many creative projects including, upholstery, cushions, lampshades sewing, crafting, quilting, dolls, pillows, upholstery,  and more!

Truly lovely piece!

Approximate measurements

82" wide at gathered top;  25" from top edge to bottom of scallop; 14.5 from top edge to top of scallop; 3" fringe

This is made from 3 pieces that each have their blue selvedge edges intact @ 42"

I do my best to accurately describe condition and point out major flaws, but condition is seldom perfect as one would expect from a 100 year old textile. Small marks and flaws should be expected. The timeworn look and signs of their unique history is part of what makes them so charming and special!
